The first time I went, I gathered my courage (and a good water bottle) to tackle the 200 metres of elevation and 1.3 km of rocky trail that separate you from paradise. Halfway down, walking through the pine forest under the hot sun, I met a couple climbing up, out of breath. They asked if it was worth it.
I smiled and said: “You’ll tell me on the way back.”
The trail begins from the Formentor Lighthouse road (carretera del faro de Formentor), and you can park near Kilometre Point 15. From there, the path follows a dry streambed through pine trees that smell of resin and salt. It’s steep, uneven, and definitely not for flip-flops. But that effort is what keeps Cala en Gossalba, one of the most untouched beaches in north of Mallorca, safe from mass tourism.
Two Hidden Coves in One North Mallorca Paradise
When you finally arrive, you realise every step was worth it.
Cala en Gossalba is actually made up of two small coves, separated by a rocky ridge. There’s no fine sand — only pebbles and gravel — but the water is so clear it feels like the stones are floating.
The cliffs of Les Butzes, rising up to 158 metres, create a natural amphitheatre that makes you feel small and privileged at the same time. The pine trees reach almost to the shore, offering pockets of shade where you can rest before heading back.
